Opossums
Opossums are marsupials. That means they carry their young in a pouch. After they are 67 days old, they can leave the pouch for the first time. Opossums are usually 15-20 inches in length, and weigh 4-12 pounds. Opossums have 50 teeth more than other mammals. Opossums are omnivores which means they eat plants and animals. A group of opossums is called a passel. Opossums live up to two years in the wild, but in captivity they can live up to 4 years old. A litter of opossums consists of about 20 babes, but only a few survive. Males produce a sound to attract females. They also have a prehensile tail!
